A Book by Dr. Manoj Kumar Gupta
Silent Epidemic
The Hidden Hearing Crisis Affecting Millions of Indians
Every day, millions of children, adults, and senior citizens struggle with hearing loss. Many suffer silently. Many remain undiagnosed. Many never receive treatment. Yet hearing loss remains one of the most overlooked health challenges in India. This is the story of that silent epidemic.
What If the Real Problem Is Not That People Cannot Hear...
But That Society Is Not Listening?
Many families do not realise that hearing loss may be the reason behind delayed speech, poor academic performance, social isolation, depression, loss of confidence, and reduced quality of life.
A child who cannot hear may struggle to speak. A child who cannot speak may struggle to learn. A child who struggles to learn may struggle to dream. And a child who cannot dream may never discover their true potential.
The tragedy is that many of these stories could have been prevented through awareness, early diagnosis, and timely intervention. This book was written so that fewer children are left behind.

Why I Wrote This Book
For more than 25 years, I have cared for patients suffering from hearing loss and hearing disorders.
I have seen children who could not hear their mother's voice. I have seen parents carrying guilt because diagnosis came too late. I have seen young adults whose education and careers suffered because hearing problems were ignored. I have seen elderly individuals gradually withdraw from conversations, relationships, and society because they could no longer hear clearly.
The most painful reality is that many of these situations could have had a different ending.
Awareness Can Save Futures. If this book helps even one child hear better, one parent seek help earlier, or one family understand hearing loss more deeply, it has fulfilled its purpose.
