Ear Care FAQs

Satkriti Hospital treats ear discharge (CSOM), hearing loss and deafness, tinnitus, and hearing problems in newborns and children. Ear surgeries include tympanoplasty and ossiculoplasty, mastoidectomy, stapedectomy, otoplasty, facial nerve decompression, myringotomy with grommet, intratympanic injection and cochlear implant surgery.

The common causes are a middle ear infection, a perforated (torn) eardrum, repeated colds or nasal allergy that spread to the ear, and injury from cotton buds, matchsticks or hairpins. Foul-smelling discharge, blood, headache, dizziness or reduced hearing means you should see an ENT doctor without waiting.

No. Home care can only keep the ear comfortable until the examination. Keep the ear dry, do not put oil, garlic juice, drops or any object inside, and do not stop or switch medicines on your own. An ENT examination is needed to find whether the cause is infection, a perforated eardrum or something else, because the right treatment depends on it.

Common early signs are asking people to repeat themselves, raising the TV or phone volume, struggling to follow speech in noisy places and ear discharge. In children, delayed or unclear speech at 2 to 3 years can point to a hearing problem. A hearing test (audiometry) with an ENT specialist confirms it.

An OAE (otoacoustic emissions) test checks how well the inner ear (cochlea) responds to sound using a small probe placed at the ear. It needs no response from the patient, so it is widely used to screen newborns and young children for hearing loss. Satkriti Hospital offers OAE testing for inner ear evaluation.

Yes. Cochlear implant surgery is part of the ear treatments at Satkriti Hospital, for patients with severe hearing loss who get little benefit from hearing aids. A hearing evaluation decides whether a cochlear implant is suitable.
